Szimpla Kert – Animated Image

Szimpla Kert
One small area on the first floor of Szimpla Kert, the Budapest Ruin Bar

My own particular, very subjective and surrealistic take on the Szimpla Kert ruin bar in Budapest. When I went there, it was love at first sight. This is one small area on the first floor of the romkocsma, (means ruin pub in Hungarian), located in the Jewish Quarter of Budapest.

Obviously a day capture. The night scene here is a different beast. The animations (quite a few if you look closely) represent how I see that place. I would definitely have made this pub my personal hangout if I lived in Budapest!

Red flowers at dusk – Take 2

Played around a little bit on this new take from my Nafplio painting.

Fire dish in Warsaw

This is part of my ongoing preparation for the Art + Photo exhibition I will be participating in with Georges Dutil and David Morris, at the Atelier/Galerie Marc Gosselin, in Montreal, May 17 to 26, 2018.

First one is a MP4, better quality but you have to set your player to loop for the effect to last more than 6 seconds – second one is an animated gif, which loops on its own, but is not as high def as the MP4.

From an original painting I created after a walkabout in Warsaw some years back. Time flies!

An animated piece reaches out to you, giving an illusion of experience that much closer to having been there. Of course, I still prefer the painting, which I’ll eventually publish here. In the meantime, warm yourselves by the fire in Warsaw’s Old Town.

An animated gif of 2 of my digital paintings, merged to create this spoof of exhaut fumes from Berlin’s U6 tram spilling outside of the photograph in an English pub.

Grand Bazaar, Istanbul, Study #1

Study #1 Grand Bazaar, Istanbul
Study from a photograph I shot in Istanbul’s Grand Bazaar

Been in a creative rut lately and needed to open things up a bit. Preparing a show in Montreal in the Spring of this year (2018) with two friend artists and trying to have fun, experiment, so that my head and, more importantly, my heart feel peace. This is simply an animated gif but it gets to say what I wanted to.

The dark side is entirely mine. The photo just called this mood so I painted and edited accordingly.

Italy is full of visual gems. Case in point, during a Montepulciano walkabout, this pottery set painted with a Tuscany theme in a window display caught my eye.

I’m sure they probably offered delivery to whatever country you live in, but I find that a digital painting takes less space in my NAS than the set would have required in my kitchen. Of course, I do not have the pleasure of serving olive oil, or fresh water from these beauties.

On a Wet Afternoon

Rain sometimes makes for interesting effects. And Dusk being my favourite time of day, I indulged myself in Cirencester.

Bruges Impressions – Cross Over

I was very lucky to visit Bruges on a clear, mostly sunny day. Its canals make for spectacular views. A friend, Jon,  made me notice: Bruges, in my eyes, is blue! As Stockholm is orange, now that I figured Bruges out ;o)

Left Turn

A short stint in Bruges last year. This, my first in the series.

Bruges has canals and cafés aplenty. Choose your spot and enjoy.
