Three cheeses and a chutney

Cheese plate
3 cheeses and a chutney

Raining in the beautiful city of Madrid so I had to find an option quickly. It is also unseasonably cold for the end of March. It is Semana Santa next week!

I’m at Bee Beer, on  Augusto Figueora 30, a cool place that serves craft beers and fine cheeses. In the afternoon they play rockabilly. Life could be worse.

Been here a while, waiting for the dogs of rain to stop their mischief and got to work on this still life. Well, didn’t stay still too long! I worked as I munched and now my only souvenir is this piece 😉

Szimpla Kert – Animated Image

Szimpla Kert
One small area on the first floor of Szimpla Kert, the Budapest Ruin Bar

My own particular, very subjective and surrealistic take on the Szimpla Kert ruin bar in Budapest. When I went there, it was love at first sight. This is one small area on the first floor of the romkocsma, (means ruin pub in Hungarian), located in the Jewish Quarter of Budapest.

Obviously a day capture. The night scene here is a different beast. The animations (quite a few if you look closely) represent how I see that place. I would definitely have made this pub my personal hangout if I lived in Budapest!

Yellow Scooter – Animated Image

Yellow Scooter
I love scooters – they’re all over Europe – this one from Greece

Guessing this was the delivery vehicle for the restaurant.

I loved the colour matching the exterior wall, and the red of the break and reflector lights matching the interior wall.

Red flowers at dusk – Take 2

Played around a little bit on this new take from my Nafplio painting.

Fall in Nafplio
Smoke volutes escape from the wall in a small Nafplio garden, at dusk.

First snow at the pub

An animation from a painting of the Yew Tree, a pub in Alresford, Hampshire, in southwest England which was a very nice find!

Part of my ongoing preparation for the Art + Photo exhibition I will be participating in with Georges Dutil and David Morris, at the Atelier/Galerie Marc Gosselin, in Montreal, 17-26.05. 2018. #Montrealexhibition, #art#photo#TRIAGE#exhibition

First snow at the pub

Fire dish in Warsaw

This is part of my ongoing preparation for the Art + Photo exhibition I will be participating in with Georges Dutil and David Morris, at the Atelier/Galerie Marc Gosselin, in Montreal, May 17 to 26, 2018.

First one is a MP4, better quality but you have to set your player to loop for the effect to last more than 6 seconds – second one is an animated gif, which loops on its own, but is not as high def as the MP4.

From an original painting I created after a walkabout in Warsaw some years back. Time flies!

An animated piece reaches out to you, giving an illusion of experience that much closer to having been there. Of course, I still prefer the painting, which I’ll eventually publish here. In the meantime, warm yourselves by the fire in Warsaw’s Old Town.

Exhibition coming!

I’m glad to announce I will be part of an upcoming Art+Photo exhibition with two artist-colleagues – the picture has all the details you need for now. All three of us are very happy to work together again, and excited to prepare all kinds of fun things for this event.

More to come soon.

Announcing our upcoming Art+Photo event, coming this May.

Berlin’s U6 stops in an English pub – Animated gif

Berlin’s U6 line stop in a UK pub
Animated gif from 2 of my paintings

An animated gif of 2 of my digital paintings, merged to create this spoof of exhaut fumes from Berlin’s U6 tram spilling outside of the photograph in an English pub.

At dusk, Nafplio, Greece – Animated gif study

Animated gif built from a small courtyard I photographed in Nafplio, Greece, in 2016.  The red of the flowers bursts out in the fading daylight, almost as if the flowers were luminous.

Grand Bazaar, Istanbul, Study #1

Study #1 Grand Bazaar, Istanbul
Study from a photograph I shot in Istanbul’s Grand Bazaar

Been in a creative rut lately and needed to open things up a bit. Preparing a show in Montreal in the Spring of this year (2018) with two friend artists and trying to have fun, experiment, so that my head and, more importantly, my heart feel peace. This is simply an animated gif but it gets to say what I wanted to.

The dark side is entirely mine. The photo just called this mood so I painted and edited accordingly.
